Forgive me, but I’m on a bit of a #pricing tear this week. I hear all kinds of stories and read detailed analysis on how brands are justifying their price cutting strategies on anything other than affordability challenges. No one wants to come out and say it, so I will: most. people. can’t. afford. a. $75,000. car. No matter how cool it is, or how much Elon Musk wants to think he’s Iron Man, 60% of people don’t have $400 of free capital (just ask the Federal Reserve). And what if the global market goes into recession? Whoa boy. If marketers want to sell something next year, methinks they should start taking a hard look at pricing strategy.
