To a woman who brought color into the world, rest in peace.

My wife loves the Kate Spade store. Even as a disinterested man walking into the store with her at the Mall of America, it’s hard not to be uplifted. It’s brightly colored, but sophisticated. The last time I was in, I saw a purse shaped like a happy owl’s bejeweled head. It was fun, well-made and ever-changing. It’s founder, the magnificent Kate Spade, took her own life last week. She was a living example of how beauty and positivity can transform a product category in spite of all the “evidence” to the contrary. We will miss her.
