If data science yields such transformational results, why does it seem like every field is struggling to “Rehumanize”?

I spent April 24 through April 26, 2018 in Madison, Wisconsin at the RECONVERGE:G2 conference. It is a three-day event where intelligence professionals gather to discuss the biggest challenges in their field. (Think a mix of market researchers, corporate librarians and ex-CIA types—pretty eclectic.) Sure, they talked about digital disruption, but the real focus wasn’t technology, it was values. Messy, human stuff. Because they knew that’s what really mattered. While there, I couldn’t help but notice a talk at the University of Wisconsin’s medical school on rehumanizing healthcare. I wonder. With all the hoopla around “digital transformation”, are we missing the point?
